Elymus lanceolatus

There are three subspecies of Elymus lanceolatus found in Saskatchewan. A photo suite for each of these is found below. A key to the subspecies from Flora of Saskatchewan, Fascicle 4, Grasses of Saskatchewan by Anna L. Leighton and Vernon L. Harms is reproduced here:
1a. Lemmas densely hairy with flexible hairs of varying lengths but at least some 1 mm or longer; sandy habitats subsp. psammophilus1b. Lemmas glabrous or pubescent with stiffer hairs <1 mm long; plants not restricted to sandy habitats 2
2a. Lemmas +/- evenly, sparsely to densely pubescent on the back, sometimes glabrate distally, smooth, not scabrous subsp. lanceolatus2b. Lemmas usually glabrous, sometimes pubescent on proximal margins, usually smooth, sometimes scabrous subsp. riparius
