Chrysopsis villosa
Hairy Golden-Aster
Nicolle Flats, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park
25-Aug-2006Achene
Note the double pappus.
Note that Budd's Flora places this species in genus Chrysopsis, while Flora of Alberta places it in Heterotheca. Chrysopsis has traditionally been distinguished from Heterotheca by the absence of pappus bristles in the ray florets of the latter, but their presence in the former. However, some have argued the genera should be united. See:

Chrysopsis (Heterotheca): Answers to key questions in Budd's Flora (BF) and Flora of Alberta (FOA) leading to this genus. Note that the keys in Budd's Flora and Flora of Alberta have somewhat conflicting requirements about the number of heads. Budd's Flora is trying to distinguish Chrysopsis and Haplopappus from Solidago with its statement.
