Anemone canadensis
Canada Anemone

Note that the Flora of Alberta requires plants NOT with slender rhizomes. In fact, A. canadensis does possess rhizomes. The flora is trying to distinguish between A. canadensis and A. richardsonii. The two can be distinguished as follows. The aerial shoots of A. canadensis arise from a caudex which is connected to a rhizome, whereas the aerial shoots of A. richardsonii arise directly from a rhizome node (i.e. there is no caudex). In addition, A. richardsonii has yellow sepals.
Note also the basal leaf at the end of a long petiole.
