Anemone canadensis

Canada Anemone

Upper Half of Plant

Duck Mountain Provincial Park
25-July-2009

Note the cauline leaves are whorled, forming involucres.  The primary involucre subtends the inflorescence, while each secondary involucre subtends a single flower.  In more vigorous specimens, the secondary involucre can subtend two inflorescence branches, each of which contains a tertiary involucre subtending a single flower.  The leaves comprising an involucre are commonly referred to as bracts.
